Pistoccu is a traditional Sardinian bread suitable for long conservation, made of durum wheat semolina, water, potato flakes, yeast and salt.


It can be eaten crunchy or moistened with water (only on the rough side or on both sides).


It is used to accompany cheeses, cured meats and meats, but it is also excellent if spread with honey, jams or with hazelnut spread. It is often used to absorb the cooking juices of stewed meat, such as sheep in coat.


The main difference with Pane Carasau is in the thickness, in fact Pane Pistoccu has a thickness of about 3-4 mm while Carasau is only 1 mm. Furthermore, Pistoccu is usually consumed after being soaked while Carasau is normally consumed dry.
